BANTAY BATA 163

Asides from traditional song and dance, Filipino culture also involves the teaching and practice of good family values and morals.  An organization committed to preserving Filipino culture, the PHILIPPINE DANCE COMPANY of BOSTON has chosen to undertake the responsibility of sponsoring a charitable program – Bantay Bata 163.

This whole-hearted gesture will enable PDCo to make a difference in the lives of fellow kababayans back home who are in need of assistance. This, in turn, also educates the younger generation of Filipino Americans to:

Never forget their country, to never forget their people, and to never forget where they are from.

Bantay Bata 163, a program of the ABS-CBN Foundation, focuses on child protection and welfare improvement. The program provides various services designed to assist those in need. For more information on Bantay Bata 163, please click on the Bantay Bata logo.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL'S GIFT OF LIFE NEW ENGLAND: KEIRON CRUZ

Keiron Cruz is a 2 ½ year-old from Mindoro, Philippines. He was here in New England waiting to receive medical treatment at the Children's Hospital in Boston for his congenital heart condition (supravalvar mitral stenosis). This is a rare condition that allows his heart to expand 3 times its normal size, thus leading to chronic respiratory infections, shortness of breath, a protruding chest, and developmental delays. He underwent surgery this past May 30. And fortunate to say, it was a huge success! Accompanied by his aunt Gina, he stayed at the Janz residence in New Hampshire throughout the duration of his stay here in the states. He left for the Philippines on June 11, to be reunited again with his family.

The Filipino American Friendship Society of New Hampshire (FAFS-NH) was asked by Rotary International’s Gift of Life New England (GOLNE) to join them in this charitable cause to help Keiron.

We, the Philippine Dance Company of Boston, Inc., have extended this humanitarian effort and asked the Filipinos in Massachusetts for any additional donations they would willingly like to pledge.

On June 21, 2003 a Hawaiian Luau was held in the Sacred Heart Parish Auditorium. Hundreds attended this sold-old event, where all enjoyed an all-you-can-eat Chinese food buffet, an hour-long show of entertaining Hawaiian dances performed by our youth, lots of great raffle prizes, and an evening of non-stop dancing on the dance floor, good company and good vibes. A collection was taken at the front door for donations that will help cover costs of Keiron's follow-up medical treatment and transportation while he is home. Money raised from the raffle prizes was also added to this contribution. It was once again another successful night for PDCo, friends, family and charity recipients!

Please continue to pray for Keiron throughout his time of recuperation, as well as for his aunt Virginia, his family, the Janz family and everyone else who generously contributed to this selfless endeavor.

Many thanks to all of you! This truly was a "gift of life" for Keiron.
